There's Something for Everyone!

For teens to retirees, Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a variety of match opportunities for volunteers to experience magic moments.

Community-Based Mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters program where the child and mentor (“Big”) plan their own activities and schedule. This program appeals to volunteers who need the flexibility and/or desire a lot of variety in the activities they plan to do.

Site-Based Mentoring, implemented in January 1999, matches children with mentors in a supervised setting. Unlike the community-based program, site-based matches meet at the same time and location weekly. This program option appeals to volunteers who are younger, less experienced, or desire more structure to their schedule. We have partnered with several area schools as well as the Boys & Girls Club to offer this option to volunteers.

Big For A Day is an opportunity for volunteers to try out being a “Big” before they enroll. Through monthly activities, they are paired with unmatched children in a one-time supervised activity. Many organized groups plan and participate in Big For A Day, including several groups from UWSP, community service clubs, and high schools.

Mentors Plus lets site-based matches remain in contact over the summer months, then return to the site-based program. It allows matches to continue their relations without interruption so that they don’t need to get reacquainted in the fall.
